During my granddaughter’s ninth birthday party, her stepmother forced her to confess that she had broken a glass swan worth $2,800. But when we checked the security camera footage, we discovered something horrifying… 😱
My name is Daniel, and I’m 68 years old. Since my daughter Emily died, my granddaughter Sophie has been the most precious thing in my life.
Her father, Andrew, remarried Rachel a year ago. At first, Rachel seemed kind. But Sophie had become quiet and nervous.
On her birthday, the whole family had gathered. Suddenly, the sound of breaking glass came from the living room. Rachel stormed in furiously, holding the pieces of a decorative swan.
— Sophie! Admit what you’ve done!
My granddaughter lowered her head.
— I’m sorry…
— This swan cost $2,800! You’re going to be punished!
Andrew looked devastated. I walked over to Sophie.
— Sweetheart, did you really break it?
She looked at Rachel before whispering:
— Yes, Grandpa.
But her hands were trembling. That was when I noticed the small camera installed beside the bookshelf.
— Andrew, let’s watch the footage.
Rachel turned pale. On the video, we saw Rachel drop the swan herself and then call Sophie over, ordering her to pick up the pieces. Andrew jumped to his feet, furious. But suddenly, Sophie clung to my arm.
— Grandpa, don’t let her go into my room!
— Why, sweetheart?
She burst into tears.
— Because she’s going to hide the other things too…
We immediately rushed upstairs. And what we discovered in Sophie’s closet made our blood run cold… 😨

Inside the closet, we found a suitcase filled with Sophie’s clothes. Beside it was a train reservation for the following day.
Andrew looked at Rachel.
— Why have you packed my daughter’s things?
Rachel hesitated.
— I just wanted to send her to her aunt’s house for a few days.
But Sophie burst into tears.
— That’s not true! She said I would never come back!
I opened an envelope lying on the suitcase. Inside were enrollment documents for a boarding school hundreds of miles away.
Rachel had even forged Andrew’s signature.
— You wanted to send my daughter far away from me? he asked.
— We’re going to have our own baby! Rachel shouted. There won’t be any room for Sophie anymore!
A terrible silence followed. Andrew took Sophie into his arms.
— You are my daughter. This house will always be your home.
He demanded that Rachel leave immediately, then reported the forged documents.
A few months later, divorce proceedings began. For her tenth birthday, Sophie asked for just one thing: a large photograph of her mother in the living room.
Andrew hung it up himself. And this time, nobody asked her to take it down.
