Ritaj and Rital were born in August 2011 with a rare condition called craniopagus, where they shared a skull and a circulatory system, while having distinct brains.
Doctors had little hope, estimating their chances of survival at 28%, as conjoined twins often do not survive pregnancy or die shortly after birth.
In 2016, the family moved to Ireland to provide Rital, who suffers from autism, with specialized care.
The father quickly initiated efforts to raise funds, finding the necessary help through the Facing The World organization. The cost of the procedure was £400,000.
Due to the rapid deterioration of Ritaj’s condition, the separation operation had to be performed urgently.
After months of preparation, the surgeons separated their skulls through a delicate procedure, cutting the blood vessels that connected them. Both girls came out of the operation without serious complications.
Today, at the age of 13, Ritaj and Rital lead a full and happy life. Their journey, as told by their parents, is a model of resilience and a tribute to human strength in the face of adversity.
