It was my birthday, and like every year, I woke up with this strange feeling of joy mixed with a certain melancholy. Since my childhood, this day has always brought me a glimmer of hope, a breath of renewal.
It was the day when, surrounded by my family, I felt loved and embraced. Today, however, everything seemed different. I was alone.😔
I picked up a large candle that I had carefully chosen for decoration, a small touch of joy in this solitude.
The balloons were inflated, the garlands arranged with care. The cake I had prepared was waiting for me on the table, its candles lit, as if symbolizing a silent wish.
I blew out the candles with a nostalgia that tightened my throat, as if, in blowing them out, I was giving up years of love, years of shared happiness. But nothing happened. The wish remained suspended in the air.
And then, the tears started to flow. Solitude overwhelmed me, heavy and oppressive, like a damp blanket. My children, my loved ones, no one was there.😔
The silence was heavier than ever, echoing in every corner of the room, reminding me that time had passed too quickly.
Where were they, those faces that once surrounded me with love? Those laughs, those voices? The room almost seemed to reprimand me for being the last one to blow out its candles.
I was about to get up and go to my room, to lose myself in the shadow of this day that I could no longer understand. But suddenly, I heard a sound at the door. A light knock, followed by another, then one last. I froze.
I walked slowly toward the door, my steps heavy, hesitant.
Who could it be? 😯 I had doubts. Should I open the door or not? Who could be at my door at such an hour? 😯

I slowly opened the door, and in front of me stood a small group of people, smiling, with balloons and flowers in their hands.
My children, my grandchildren, were all there, laughing and whispering among themselves, as if they had conspired to surprise me.
Their faces radiated love and complicity, and immediately, my heart skipped a beat.
“Happy birthday, mom!” one of them shouted, while another handed me a bouquet of flowers. I didn’t understand right away.
The surprise left me speechless. The room, which had seemed so empty just moments before, was suddenly filled with laughter and warmth.
I hadn’t seen their messages, nor their effort to organize this surprise in secret. In an instant, the solitude disappeared, swept away by the love of those who were dear to me.
