My 6-year-old daughter secretly called the police. When I discovered why my partner was answering all her calls, I realized that I didn’t really know the man who was living in my home… 😨
My name is Heather, and I thought that Adam, my partner, was taking good care of my daughter, Maisie, while I was at work.
But one Wednesday morning, the police called me. My daughter had dialed 911 from the laundry room and injured her ankle.
At the hospital, she refused to look me in the eyes. I gently took her hand.
— Sweetheart, why did you call the police?
She lowered her head.
— Because I was scared…
My heart tightened.
— What were you afraid of, my love?
She looked at the officer sitting near the door, then whispered:
— Adam told me not to call you anymore. He said you would get angry if I bothered you.
I was speechless. For weeks, Adam had claimed that Maisie had hurt herself while playing or at school. I had always believed him.
Then my daughter pulled her little pink phone out from under the blanket.
— Mommy, whenever I try to call you, he’s always the one who answers…
The officer then showed me the number saved under my name. That number wasn’t mine. And the reason behind it would reveal a secret far more serious than I could ever have imagined.😱😱😱

The officer placed the phone on the table and explained that the number saved under my name belonged to a different SIM card.
— We’ve discovered that several of your daughter’s calls were redirected to this number, he told me. We need to understand why.
I felt my legs trembling. Adam had made sure that Maisie couldn’t reach me without her calls going through him first.
At that moment, my phone rang. It was Adam.
— Heather, where are you? You shouldn’t listen to that child’s stories. She makes things up when she wants attention.
The officer signaled for me not to respond. He turned on the speakerphone and asked Adam to come to the hospital to explain what had happened.
Adam arrived twenty minutes later, looking completely confident. But when he saw the police officers, his expression changed.
One of them showed him the call records and asked why he had replaced my number in Maisie’s phone.
At first, he denied everything, but eventually, he admitted that he wanted to control my daughter’s communications. He had also lied about several injuries, claiming they were ordinary accidents.
I looked at Maisie, who was still trembling under her blanket. I held her tightly and promised her that she would never have to keep such a secret again.
Adam was taken away for questioning while the appropriate authorities began their investigation.
That day, I understood that trusting someone doesn’t mean turning a blind eye. And above all, I learned that a child who asks for help must always be heard.
