I will never forget December 22, the day I realized that something was wrong with my daughter Sofia.
She was six years old and, usually, she was incapable of staying quiet. After Christmas, she ran around everywhere with her drawings and chocolates. Yet that day, she entered her grandmother’s house without touching the box of chocolates she had received.
— I’m tired, Mom, she whispered before going to her room.
Something was bothering me. I followed her and found her standing beside her bed, with her arms wrapped tightly around her stomach.
— Mom, promise me you won’t get angry.
When she lifted her sweatshirt, my heart sank. I discovered marks on her body.
— Who did this to you?
Sofia burst into tears.
— Grandma… She said I had been disobedient because I had eaten three polvorones.
I couldn’t understand. She then explained to me that they had made her carry a plastic bag and had forced her to go up and down the stairs to “lose” what she had eaten.
I immediately took photos, and what I did shocked her. She had always thought she could do whatever crossed her mind and get whatever she wanted, but I showed her where her place was.😮😮

I immediately took photos to show my husband. She had always thought she could do whatever crossed her mind and get whatever she wanted. But that day, I clearly showed her that there were limits.
I picked up the plastic bag she had given Sofia. I then went upstairs, took her belongings one by one and placed them in that same bag. Then I went back downstairs and put it right in front of her.
She stood frozen, unable to understand.
— I don’t understand… What is this? Why did you put my things like this? she asked, completely in shock.
I looked her straight in the eyes.
— It’s quite simple. Sofia is also my child, and you made her carry a garbage bag as if she were worthless. So why wouldn’t I have the right to put your things in the same bag?
She opened her mouth, but no words came out.
— Now, take your things and leave. You no longer have the right to treat my daughter this way. I will never let you hurt her again.
