“Hello, hello, Alpha squad, do you copy, are you in communication?” – This could be heard continuously on the radio😱.
But Alpha squad was no longer giving any sign of life. The radios were silent, and the explosion’s dust covered the valley with a white veil.
Maya Carter, sergeant-chief, had survived the blast wave. Lying on unstable rocks, her head spinning and forehead injured, her helmet gone and her shoulder on fire, she slid behind a slab of rock to catch her breath.
Below, the squad’s position was still smoking. The valley hung in oppressive silence, disturbed only by light whirls of smoke. Maya reached for her radio: a crackle and static. Fear gripped her chest, but these were not just names, they were men who trusted her.
A short, sharp sound made her sit up: the captain’s emergency signal. The team was alive, trapped in a crater, exposed, while hostile figures advanced cautiously along the ridge.
Maya scanned the valley and spotted a glint on a distant ridge, over three thousand meters away according to her rangefinder. Someone was watching the scene. 😱 Her father’s calm voice returned to her: “A sniper keeps a clear mind when everything seems out of control.”
Maya adjusted her scope. The wind swept through the valley, the figure on the ridge moved slightly. She slowed her breathing, did all the calculations, and gently squeezed the trigger at the precise moment. Every second mattered, every movement could change the outcome, and Maya knew this choice would be both impossible and inevitable.
At that difficult moment, even though she was injured, she did something incredible 😱😱😱.

Maya felt the burn in her shoulder radiating into her chest, but her mind was icy clear. Every breath was calculated, every movement meticulous.
The opposing sniper, focused on the men trapped below, did not see her. The discreet, almost inaudible click sounded like a suspended heartbeat.
The bullet flew, traveling over three thousand meters, and struck its target with terrifying precision. The figure on the ridge wavered, then collapsed silently.
Maya herself collapsed against the rock, gasping, her body burning and fingers numb. Yet, she had saved her team. The shouts and calls of her comrades reached her, their survival now ensured thanks to her composure.
As the adrenaline subsided, dust and blood mixed on her face, Maya knew she had crossed an invisible line: to survive, protect, and accomplish the impossible, even while broken. She took a deep breath, clutching the radio to her chest, and whispered: “We’re still here…”
