When I went to pick up my 7-year-old daughter after her first sleepover, she whispered to me in the car that a man had given her a strange drink. A few minutes later, her mother sent me a message: “Do what you have to do. I need proof that no one can dispute.”
I didn’t argue. I went to the emergency room and called the police.
— Dad, I don’t want to go back there anymore, Lily whispered. Mark gave me a weird juice… then he told me to say that you were the one who gave it to me.
James froze. Lily was pale, her eyes were red, and one hand was resting on her stomach.
At the hospital, a nurse quickly examined her. Her mother, Emma, arrived shortly afterward.
— What happened? she asked, distraught.
Before James could answer, a doctor entered with the results.
— Your daughter is stable. But the tests revealed traces of a sedative medication intended for adults.
James felt his heart begin to race.
— Did someone give her this medication?
— We need to let the police investigate, the doctor simply replied.
Two officers then questioned Lily. She told them that she had been given a different glass from the other children. Mark had then taken her into the kitchen and asked her to repeat a sentence:
“Dad gave me this medication to make me sleep.”
James remained silent. Then one of the officers pulled out a small transparent bag. Inside was a second phone that had been found in Lily’s backpack.😮

The message said: “Has she already repeated the sentence as planned?”

James stared at the phone, unable to take his eyes off the message.
— “E”… Who is that? one of the officers asked.
At that moment, Emma went pale. She knew exactly what that letter meant.
A few hours earlier, before the police arrived, she had sent a message to this contact. She simply wanted to check whether her plan had worked. But she had never imagined that this phone would end up in the hands of the investigators.
One of the officers asked Emma to hand over her own phone. After a few checks, he found the conversation.
The last message she had sent read:
“Has she already repeated the sentence as planned?”
James looked at Emma, completely devastated.
— Was it you?
Emma lowered her eyes.
— Yes… but listen to me. I never wanted to hurt Lily.
She then explained that she had discovered that Mark was preparing a trap for James. He wanted to make it look as though James had given their daughter medication so that he could accuse him and have him arrested.
Emma had decided to play along in order to obtain proof. She had deliberately let Mark believe that she was cooperating with him.
But she didn’t know that Mark had already given Lily the medication.
The police arrested Mark that same evening.
And James finally understood why Emma had written to him:
