I then stepped out of the adjoining room, a smile on my face.
— Welcome to your new home. At least, if you can still call it that.
Eleanor rushed toward me furiously and demanded that I hand over the keys. I handed her an official document that immediately silenced her. The house had been purchased solely in my name, with funds whose existence Julian knew nothing about.
But that wasn’t all. Thanks to the hidden-camera recordings and the evidence of their schemes, my lawyer had already taken the necessary steps to protect my assets and begin divorce proceedings.
Julian tried to explain himself, while Chloe, in tears, realized that she had been lied to about the entire situation.
— You can’t do this to us! Eleanor shouted.
I looked her straight in the eyes.
— You all thought my silence meant weakness. Now you’re going to discover how wrong you were.
The police officers instructed them to follow them. That night, they left the house with their suitcases, without getting what they had wanted.
