The billionaire’s baby was screaming as Selma had never heard before. The twenty-four-year-old young servant, barely arrived at the great Blanchard house, felt her heart tighten. These were not normal cries: there was pure panic in his voice, a distress that went beyond simple hunger or discomfort.
The nursery door was massive. The room itself looked like a palace: golden walls, silky fabrics, a crystal chandelier hanging from the ceiling. Yet, at the center, the ivory cradle looked like a cage. Little Armand was thrashing about, striking his sheets in rage, his face flushed, his mouth wide open in a silent scream.
Selma approached gently. Every detail spoke to her: the damp carpet, the mattress slightly sagging under her hand. Something was really wrong. The parents, Violette and Lucien, were frozen in the doorway. Violette was trembling, her socialite beauty erased by worry. Lucien, in an impeccable suit and a gleaming watch, tried to impose control.
“Three pediatricians said he’s fine,” Lucien said curtly.
“Then why have three nannies resigned in less than two months?” Selma replied, without blinking.
She knelt beside the cradle, carefully observing the baby. A small breath, a tension in the mattress, an imperceptible shiver… Then she understood. With gentleness and courage, she did what no one else had dared to do.
Armand suddenly fell silent, his eyes opening, filled with gratitude. The servant had found the problem invisible to the rich and to doctors: it was neither the food nor the room or other visible things, but something else 😱.
What she found shocked everyone. 😱😱

Selma gently placed her hands on the mattress and immediately felt an abnormal bump beneath her fingers.
She carefully lifted the satin cover and discovered that part of the mattress was cracked and hard, forming a small raised area that hurt Armand with every movement. The servant held her breath. None of the doctors, none of the nannies had noticed this imperfection hidden beneath the apparent luxury of the cradle.
With care, she adjusted the mattress, repositioned the damaged part, and made sure that little Armand was resting on a perfectly flat and soft surface. Immediately, his screams stopped. His little fists relaxed, his reddened face returned to normal color, and his eyes opened and looked at Selma, filled with a mixture of relief and gratitude.
Violette and Lucien remained petrified, unable to believe that a simple material defect, invisible and ignored, had caused so much suffering. The servant, with calm and courage, had identified the real problem that luxury had hidden: the safety and comfort of a baby were more important than gold and crystal.
Armand finally fell asleep, calm and trusting. Selma stayed by his side, aware that she had just saved the little boy from this invisible danger that no one else had been able to see.
