Three weeks after the funeral, they wanted to drive me off my property… then I discovered what had been prepared before his death

Three weeks after my husband’s funeral, his brother arrived at our Montana cabin with a surveyor, a $10,000 check, and a document for me to sign.

He told me I had thirty days to leave the seventy acres that Luke and I had called home.

Dale placed a document titled “Property Transfer” on the table. Behind him, my mother-in-law silently looked over the furniture Luke had built with his own hands.

“We’re just trying to make things easier,” Dale said. “Take the check and find somewhere that’s easier to manage.”

I looked out the window. A man in an orange vest was waiting beside a white pickup truck, with his surveying equipment.

“Why did you bring a surveyor?”

Dale avoided my gaze.

“It’s not important.”

Yet something was bothering me.

Luke had been dead for twenty-three days. His boots were still by the door. I hadn’t found the strength to put them away, and his family was already deciding what would happen to our home.

Then I noticed a strange detail in the document.

My name was written as “Sloane Tolliver.”

“I never took the Tolliver name,” I said.

Dale simply replied that it could be corrected.

I refused to sign. After they left, I followed the pickup’s tracks across the property. They crossed the pasture and continued toward the meadow near the creek.

There, I discovered four wooden stakes surrounded by pink ribbons.

I crouched beside the first one and turned over the tag attached to it. The company’s name, a case number, and a date were written on it.

I read the date twice. The property had been officially surveyed nineteen days before Luke’s death.

And suddenly, I realized that someone had been preparing something long before his funeral. 😮😮

I returned to the cabin with the tag in my hand and immediately called the surveying company. The woman on the phone hesitated when I gave her the case number.

“Mrs. Mercer… this survey was requested by your husband.”

My heart nearly stopped.

“Luke?”

“Yes. He asked us to verify the property boundaries and prepare a new plan. He was supposed to return a few days later to sign the documents.”

I asked her why. She paused.

“I’m not sure I’m allowed to tell you, but he also asked for a copy to be sent to his lawyer.”

I hung up and called the lawyer whose name appeared on Luke’s old documents.

Less than an hour later, he arrived with a sealed envelope. Inside was a copy of the actual deed.

Luke had purchased the seventy acres in his name before our marriage, then, several weeks earlier, had officially transferred half of the property into my name.

But that wasn’t all.

He had also discovered that Dale and Arlene had been trying for months to make it appear that the land still belonged to the family trust.

Luke had therefore prepared the necessary evidence to prevent them from forcing me off the property.

The lawyer looked at me before saying:

“Your husband knew they would try to take this land back after his death.”

I remained silent.

Luke hadn’t only prepared for our future.

He had prepared to protect me. And suddenly, I understood why he had insisted that after his death, I absolutely must not sign any documents.
