After spending two years abroad, I returned home thinking I would find my wife and family. But as soon as I arrived, I heard crying coming from the old chicken coop behind the house.
As I approached, I discovered my elderly parents locked behind a door secured with a rusty chain. My father was covered in injuries, and my terrified mother asked me not to make Claire, my wife, angry.
My parents then explained that Claire had locked them up for several days after trying to convince my father to hand the property over to her. She had also confiscated their phones and controlled their access to food.
When I confronted Claire, she claimed that my parents were confused and that their injuries were simply the result of falls. But I quickly noticed a camera installed near the barn. Claire claimed that it no longer worked.
I then revealed to her that before I left, I had installed a hidden backup system that allowed the footage to be stored remotely. The evidence could therefore confirm everything my parents had told me.
I immediately called the emergency services and the police. Shortly afterward, paramedics arrived to take care of my parents, while the guests present in the house began to leave.
Claire then tried to leave the property with a folder containing several documents, but the authorities stopped her for questioning.
As my father was being taken to the ambulance, he suddenly grabbed my arm.
— Daniel… the house…

My father looked directly into my eyes.

I immediately returned to the house. My mother had been taken to the hospital, and the police were watching Claire. I went upstairs and entered my old bedroom, exactly as I had left it two years earlier.
Behind the bookcase, I found a small metal box hidden in the wall. Inside were documents, bank statements, and several photographs.
I then understood that Claire was not only trying to obtain the property. She had discovered that my parents had placed their savings in an account intended for their old age, and she wanted to get her hands on it.
But the most disturbing thing was a letter written by my father.
In it, he explained that he suspected Claire had been manipulating the property documents for several months.
I immediately handed everything over to the police.
A few days later, my parents returned home.
This time, I made them a promise: I would never again let them face alone someone who wanted to take advantage of their vulnerability.
