I had paid $21,840 to give my family a luxury cruise. But two weeks before departure, my mother texted me: “You’re not coming. Your father wants only the family.” I didn’t argue. I simply called the travel agency… 😱
My name is Camille, I’m 33 years old, and I’ve always been the one who helped everyone. When my father had debts, I paid them off. When my sister Élodie ran short of money, I helped her.
So when my mother dreamed of taking a Caribbean cruise, I decided to make her wish come true. I booked six spots, including the cabins, restaurants, and excursions.
Everything was paid for with my money. But one evening, my mother sent me this message:
— You’re not coming. Your father prefers to travel with only the family.
Then she removed me from our family group chat. I was devastated. A few hours later, my cousin sent me a screenshot. My sister had written:
“Luckily, Camille decided to stay home! We’ll finally be able to enjoy a peaceful vacation.”
I realized they wanted to enjoy my gift without me being there. The next day, I called the travel agency.
— Ma’am, would you like to cancel your reservation? the representative asked.
— No. I only want to change a few services. My luxury suite must remain booked.
Two weeks later, my parents and my sister boarded the ship.
On the first evening, they spotted me in the restaurant. I was seated at a private table, wearing a golden bracelet on my wrist. Élodie approached me, furious.
— Why are you wearing the bracelet for the presidential suite?
I smiled.
— Because you haven’t discovered what I changed in your reservations yet… 😨

Élodie looked at me anxiously.
— What have you done, Camille?
— I simply canceled everything you hadn’t paid for.
At that moment, my father arrived, furious.
— Explain yourself immediately!
I calmly set down my glass.
— Your tickets are still valid. But I canceled the gourmet restaurants, unlimited drinks, private excursions, and luxury cabins.
My mother turned pale.
— But where are we supposed to sleep?
— In the standard cabins I booked for you. I kept my presidential suite because I was the one who paid for it.
Élodie crossed her arms.
— You’re punishing us because we wanted to travel without you?
— No. You had every right to travel without me. But you had no right to expect me to finance a vacation that excluded me.
My father said nothing. Over the following days, I enjoyed my suite, the restaurants, and the excursions. Meanwhile, my family discovered the true cost of the extra services.
On the final evening, my mother came to see me.
— We were unfair to you, Camille. Please forgive us.
— I need time, Mom.
Since that cruise, I no longer pay for their expenses. I finally understood that being a good daughter doesn’t mean allowing yourself to be used.
