— You’re old, Eleanor. You’re sick. I want to be with someone who still matters. 😮😮
At 75, I thought that the forty-eight years I had spent by Thomas’s side still had some value in his eyes. I was wrong.
I was barely recovering from an operation when he entered our bedroom, wearing the suit I had given him for our fortieth wedding anniversary. But he wasn’t alone. A 35-year-old blonde woman, Brooke Sanders, stood beside him in an elegant red dress.
Thomas looked at me coldly.
— You’re old, Eleanor. You’re sick. I want to be with someone who still matters.
Those words hurt me deeply, but I refused to cry. For nearly five decades, I had raised our children, supported Thomas, and helped build Grant Holdings, which had become a multimillion-dollar company after starting out in a simple rented office.
Yet he now claimed that everything belonged to him: the company, our house, and our investments. According to him, the lawyers would give me enough money to live comfortably.
Then I noticed the suitcases by the door. His departure had already been arranged.
But what truly surprised me was seeing Brooke wearing my diamond bracelet, a piece of jewelry Thomas had given me years ago.
I looked at the bracelet, then at my husband, and smiled.
— Your father was right. He said you were charming, but terribly reckless.
Thomas didn’t understand. After they left, I waited until his car disappeared before taking out a small phone hidden in my nightstand.
I called my lawyer, Diane.
— He finally did it.
— Then we can begin, she replied.
Two years earlier, I had discovered suspicious transactions. I had then discreetly secured certain accounts and copied documents that Thomas believed were well hidden.
Three weeks later, at court, Thomas arrived with Brooke, certain that he had won. But when the judge opened Diane’s file, his smile disappeared. He had just realized that he had made a terrible mistake.
And this file revealed only the beginning of the truth. 😮😮

Diane calmly placed the documents before the judge. They proved that Thomas had secretly transferred millions to several shell companies, forged my signature, and used our joint assets to finance his new life with Brooke.
Thomas turned pale.
— That’s impossible…
Diane smiled.
— Your wife has the original copies.
Brooke abruptly turned toward him.
— You told me everything was legal!
The silence became icy.
But Diane wasn’t finished. Thomas’s father’s will stated that the majority of the shares in Grant Holdings should go to the spouse who had participated in the creation of the company. Contracts dating back forty years bore my name.
Thomas was therefore not the sole owner. I was the majority shareholder.
The judge ordered several accounts to be frozen immediately and forwarded the financial documents to the relevant authorities. Brooke left the courtroom without even looking at Thomas.
Six months later, our divorce was finalized. I kept the house, my investments, and control of Grant Holdings. Thomas, meanwhile, had to answer for his own decisions.
One evening, he called me.
— Eleanor… I made a mistake.
I looked at the garden where we had once played with our children.
— No, Thomas. You made a choice.
Then I hung up. At 75, I was neither useless nor finished. For the first time in a long time, my life belonged entirely to me.
