My stepfather raised me as his own daughter after my mother’s death. But at his funeral, a stranger whispered to me: “If you want to know what really happened to your mother, look in the bottom drawer of Michael’s workbench in the garage.”
My biological father had disappeared before I was born. My mother was still pregnant when he left, and he never came back.
Michael entered our lives when I was two years old. He married my mother, Carina, and I don’t remember a time when he wasn’t by my side.
Then, when I was four, I lost my mother in a car accident. After that, Michael became my entire family.
He raised me as his daughter, helping me with my homework, teaching me how to ride a bike, and always being there whenever I needed him. Whenever someone asked him who I was, he simply answered:

Michael explained that he had never wanted to hide the truth from me. After my mother’s death, he had discovered that her accident might not have been an accident.
A few days before the tragedy, Carina had received several letters from my biological father. He wanted to return to our lives and had asked to meet her. Michael then discovered something disturbing: my father had been threatened by someone who wanted to prevent him from revealing an old secret.
But the most terrible part was on the final pages.
Michael had asked Frank to investigate for years. According to the documents, my mother’s car had been deliberately sabotaged. She hadn’t simply lost control: someone had intentionally caused the accident.
