When Liam and I got married, I was simply an accessory in his eyes. He was obsessed with social status, constantly monitored my diet, and insisted that I wear tight dresses at dinners so he could show me off. His affection depended entirely on my appearance.
Then I became pregnant.
Three years ago, I was standing in our hallway, holding our newborn daughter in my arms, while Liam was packing his bags. His words were so absurd that I remained speechless for a few seconds. Then I burst out laughing.
“You really think the last three years of my life revolved around you?”
His face turned red with anger.
“Of course! You were my wife. You should have waited for me to come back. A woman makes efforts for her husband. If you had lost the weight after childbirth, I might have come back.”
At that moment, my partner gently squeezed my hand.
“Do you even hear what you’re saying?” he asked calmly. “This woman carried your child, went through a pregnancy, childbirth, and sleepless nights while you left because her body no longer matched your expectations. And today, you dare to blame her for rebuilding her life?”
Around us, several guests had stopped talking and were watching the scene. I could see their expressions changing. Some were discreetly shaking their heads at Liam’s arrogance.
I looked him straight in the eyes.
“You didn’t leave me because I gained weight. You left me because you were incapable of loving a woman as anything other than a trophy. You thought I would spend years waiting for your return, counting calories, and seeking your approval. You were wrong.
