My husband made fun of me in front of his friends because I was wearing adult protection after giving birth — until one of his friends stood up and did something that no one at the table saw coming.
A year ago, I gave birth to three babies at once.
This pregnancy significantly weakened my pelvic floor. Sometimes, if I coughed, sneezed, laughed too hard, or lifted something heavy, I could have a leak before I even had time to hold it in.
It wasn’t something I had chosen, and it wasn’t because I didn’t take care of myself.
On difficult days, I wore discreet absorbent underwear. Only my husband, Richard, knew about it, even though he often joked about it.
Yesterday, Richard invited six of his friends over to our house. I prepared chili, filled bowls with chips, and placed the drinks next to the sofa.
As I was carrying the plates into the kitchen, I heard loud bursts of laughter coming from the living room.
Richard was standing next to the television, holding the package I kept hidden under the towels.
“Look what I found,” he announced. “Our triplets already know how to hold it, but apparently their mother still hasn’t finished potty training.”
Richard shook the package like a trophy.
“Be careful, gentlemen. Don’t make her laugh too much, or we’ll have to protect the sofa.”
My face burned.
“Please, put that away,” I whispered.
Richard rolled his eyes. “Oh, relax. It’s just a joke. If you’re embarrassed, maybe you should finally do something about your problem once and for all.”
He made another joke, but at that moment, I couldn’t even make out his words anymore.
That was when one of his friends did something no one expected. And what happened next was truly unexpected for all of us. 😮😮

His oldest friend, David, put his beer down on the table. He hadn’t laughed even once.
He looked at the package in Richard’s hand, then looked at me — and something changed in his expression.
Then David pushed his chair back, stood in front of Richard, and calmly took the package from his hands.
“You think this is funny?” he asked in a cold voice.
Richard shrugged. “Come on, David, it’s just a joke.”
David shook his head. “No. It’s not a joke when you humiliate the woman who carried and gave birth to three children.”
Then, to everyone’s surprise, David turned to me.
“You have absolutely no reason to be ashamed.”
He then placed the package on the table and looked Richard straight in the eyes.
“You should be proud of her, not make fun of her in front of your friends.”
The living room fell silent. Richard, meanwhile, stood there speechless. David picked up his beer again and added, “If she were my wife, I would protect her instead of exposing her.”
For the first time in a long time, someone had defended my dignity.
I looked at Richard and realized that something between us had definitely changed.
