My name is Daniel, I’m 42 years old, and for five years, I worked at a large technology company.
That day, I left my office carrying a simple cardboard box in my arms. Inside were a photo of my daughter Emma, a small plant she had given me, an old mug, and a notebook filled with ideas that nobody had ever wanted to listen to.
My colleagues watched me in silence.
They didn’t know that every day I left work at 5 p.m. to pick up my daughter. Most importantly, they had no idea that I possessed a fortune worth several billion dollars.
Fifteen years earlier, I had founded a technology company with my best friend Michael. Success came incredibly fast. But when my wife Sarah became seriously ill, I gave everything up to stay by her side.
She died when Emma was only a few months old. Before she passed away, Sarah asked me:
— Promise me that Emma will know her father, not just the businessman.
I kept my promise. I entrusted my company to Michael and chose to live a quiet, discreet life. But my new director, David, despised me.
One day, because I had left work to take care of my sick daughter Emma, he humiliated me in front of the entire team.

Then he placed a letter in front of me.

I didn’t protest. A few minutes later, a black car stopped in front of the building. Michael hurried out.
— Daniel! The board is waiting for you. We need you.
Then he noticed the box in my hands.
— What happened?
— They fired me.
His face went pale. At that moment, the CEO walked out of the building. She looked at Michael, then at me.
— Who is this man?
Michael replied:
— Daniel is the founder and majority shareholder of the entire group.
The silence was absolute. Then she turned to David and asked:
— Who fired this man?

Michael then walked over to Daniel.
— The board has just met. We want you to take over the leadership of the group again, immediately.
Daniel looked at the box sitting at his feet. He thought about Emma, Sarah, and the promise he had made fifteen years earlier.
— I don’t want to come back for revenge, he said calmly. — I only want to make sure that no one ever has to choose between their job and their family again.
The CEO nodded.
— Then let’s start by correcting this injustice.
David was immediately fired. But Daniel refused to celebrate his downfall.
A few days later, he announced a new company-wide policy: extended family leave, flexible working hours, and complete protection for parents.
Then he went to pick Emma up from school. She ran toward him and asked:
— Dad, did you work again today?
Daniel smiled and took her into his arms.
— No, sweetheart. Today, I was simply your dad.
