After my wife’s death, Logan had offered me to live with him and Chelsea, his wife. At first, I thought I had found a family again. But little by little, Chelsea made me understand that I was no longer welcome.
“Eat in the kitchen, we have guests.”
“Stay upstairs, we have friends coming over.”
I endured everything in silence. Then, one evening, while Logan was hosting a dinner, Chelsea looked at me coldly.
“Albert, why don’t you stay in your room? It will be easier for everyone.”
I turned to my son, hoping he would defend me, but he lowered his eyes.
“Dad… maybe we need a little space tonight.”

A few days later, I met with a lawyer and began withdrawing from all the financial obligations that connected them to me.
Three weeks later, three envelopes were placed in front of their door. Chelsea opened them without concern. But when she discovered their contents, her face completely changed.
She then understood that the man she had treated as a burden was the one who had quietly supported their life for years.
When Chelsea opened the third envelope, she stood motionless. It was not a simple bill, but a document detailing all the guarantees, all the loans, and all the expenses that I had quietly covered over the years.
Without my financial support, their stability would collapse immediately.
Logan arrived a few minutes later. As he read the documents, he finally understood why I had never needed their money. Above all, he realized that he had just let his own father leave in order to satisfy his wife’s demands.
He called me several times, but I did not answer.
I was no longer angry. I had simply decided not to be the one who was only considered when it was time to pay.
A few weeks later, Logan came to find me. With regret in his eyes, he asked me for a second chance. I calmly replied:
“I can forgive you, my son. But from now on, you will have to learn to live without considering me the solution to your problems.”
This time, I finally chose my own life.
