In Terminal 2 of Mexico’s international airport, the rushing crowd and constant announcements allowed everyone to go unnoticed. That was exactly what Camila was looking for.
Elegantly dressed, she moved quickly, followed by two five-year-old twins, Lucas and Emma. Their worn-out clothes contrasted with her refined appearance. When she reached gate 17, she ordered them to sit on a bench, then walked away without a glance, boarding a flight to another destination.
No one noticed the two abandoned children. No one, except Adrian Morales.
At forty-five, Adrian was an influential businessman from northern Mexico, feared by criminals and respected for his power. While waiting for his own flight, his attention was drawn to the little boy holding a worn-out old stuffed toy tightly.
Approaching the children, he asked where their mother was. Lucas replied in a calm voice:
— That’s not our mom.
